Does anyone know why he was REALLY fired?
By the way, "uh, uh, ... uh, ...uh" (That's my Lockhart imitation).

And the public's right to know somehow does not apply the WGOW? Double standard?

Chattanoogan "Opinions" with 19 responses, so far!Now I need to find another venue for my radio, 1 to 4, weekdays. Unless R.T. Nash's error is criminal, or a great violation of moral turpitude (Which I seriously doubt), WGOW has made a big miscalculation. Mr. Nash has a bigger following than I think they suspected. I believe most government worker's radios were tuned to WGOW during the day to see if Mr. Nash was going to expose the BS they have been bitching about for years. I've disagreed with Mr. Nash's take on things before, but he has always been honest, fair, articulate and well-researched in support of his opinion in every single case. In some instances he changed my mind. I'd wager that only one or two of the "Powers That Be" were offended by Mr. Nash's exposé of their (Or their co-conspirators) corruption or ethical "lapse" and called the spineless Lockhart and whined about it. Seems like the management of WGOW works a lot like our local, state and Federal governments.... - Silences lawful whistle-blowing dissent or exposé
- Promotes and rewards the incompetent
- Refuses to explain their reasoning behind any controversial decision
- Puts self-preservation over doing what's right
The public (Not just the listeners of WGOW radio) have lost the last true "Investigative Reporter" in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Maybe Pulse Radio will take up the helm for true local radio. It'd be the smart thing to do. (Hint, Hint!) How much you wanna bet Lockhart's favorite "Bite Line" will "Bite The Dust" or be so heavily edited it'll be boring from here on out?

"And the public's right to know somehow does not apply the WGOW? Double standard?"
This was a private matter between employer and employee. Despite the inherent nosiness of a lot of people in this Town, "the public" has no right to know the situation between WGOW and Mr. Nash unless it involves matters of public record. Which it may. For this situation to be handled the way it was, with immediacy and top-level management involvement, would suggest something far more serious than a case of "his mouth finally over loaded his arse." I'm certainly not here to defend Bill Lockhart, but, even though he obviously had to be involved in this action, I believe that the ultimate decision of termination was made higher up.
I was not a fan of Robert T. Nash, but I concede that he had one element seriously lacking in most other "talkers" around here: personality. Like him, hate him, or couldn't-care-less, listening to his Show for just a few minutes would always elicit a reaction.
Depending upon his alleged offense, I agree that Pulse Radio should take a look at him.

I listened to him at work unless someone was in my office. His voice was sometimes grating, but he was informative, as they say. Sort of like the old, late Harry Thornton. I'm going to miss him. By the way, in case you didn't know....You, Duke, are a jerk.

I'd agree that the management of WGOW is not required to release anything, but it seems that if they are constantly demanding transparency from others, it would be nice if they practiced what they preached.
Kind of like Duke, demanding more Constitutional protections for all citizens, but less Constitutional protections for a specific set of citizens (LEOs).
But, I won't hold my breath for either to do the stand up thing or at least be consistent. It is just not their nature.

Robert T. Nash's show got old a long time ago, he rehashed the same old tired routines over and over again. I can't believe he lasted as long as he did.

I always thought he was kind of entertaining and quite a word-smith as well. I'll miss his arbitrary and capricious diatribes.

Police Moderator: right you are about the lack of transparency on this issue by Citadel, but I suspect that there is an underlying issue that is not/can not yet be made public. Because of the show of support for Robert T. (did WGOW anticipate this?) there will have to be some kind of public statement released by the Management, much like when Jay "Jammer" Scott was released. Robert T. himself may be sworn to secrecy regarding the reason for his termination (can an employer demand that?) but rest assured that he knows, and the Truth will out.
Reminds me of a story about a friend of mine who was once terminated from his job at a Radio station. Called in by Management (the dreaded, "Got a minute?" question in the hallway) he was told: "We have good news and bad news...the good news is we have decided not to prosecute..."

I heard him say "The Irish were the niggers of Europe" line this past week. Could that be it?
I second the "Bring back Parker Smith!" I would love to turn on the radio at 1:07 monday and hear "There's a man who leads a life of danger"
Gonna miss RT though. Here's to hoping he'll find a new radio home.

Why did Mr. Nash get canned? Could have been any number of reasons.
1. There are lines you just don't cross in commercial broadcasting. Many times, I would hear him say something and think, how did he get away with that? Looks like maybe he didn't.
2. His ratings were only fair, nothing special.
3. Yes, he had some vocal fans, but many folks turned off or switched to another station at the mere sound of his voice. I know several who did that, as did I on occasion. Sometimes after 5 minutes of him repeating the same thing, over and over, I was out of there.
4. If any sponsors threatened to cancel, or indeed did cancel, bye bye RT.
5. He was not particularly well liked in his own building.
6. Finally, and don't put this past the people of WGOW, this may be one of their seemingly endless amateur publicity stunts. Don't be surprised to hear him back on in a few days "due to popular demand." It's one of the oldest (and most tired) tricks in the radio industry.

Hope he lands back on the air somewhere. He could actually give The Pulse an actual Pulse. Good Luck RT. 1-3 airtime looks like ESPN Radio time.

Who is he? I have never heard of him or that radio station. But I listen to Jack. Talk radio? Why? ? I would rather listen to Mozart. In fact I prefer Mozart to Hayden.

There are only a very few things that get one dismissed so quickly---a short list: theft, racial/ethnic remarks, sexual harrassment, telling your boss to go screw him/herself (see # 3 on this list). His Irish temper may have grasped the reins of his tongue for a few seconds too long....

I have to admit that everything I know abour Mr. Nash I have read on this forum over the years. I have the radio in my office set on 106 pretty low all day and usually don't even notice that they are playing the same damn thing day after day as I am either on the phone or racing around the building.

I've known him for years and consider him at least a buddy, if not a friend, but I couldn't listen to him either. He was very good at what passes for Talk Radio, but I don't care much for that. The last time I heard him harp on a minor misspoken word, ignoring the main issue at hand, was the last time I listened to him. There was no call to browbeat someone over something non-essential, but he did it all the time, so I quit listening.

The original article on chattanoogan.com said he was reported by a former or current employee for something and after it was investigated he was let go. Guess we'll all know tomorrow. www.chattanoogan.com/articles/article_173606.aspI won't miss him because I didn't listen to his show. Tried once but he got on my nerves. I still miss Parker though.

If he resigned, I could see WGOW enforcing a noncompete clause. If he was fired will they still be able too?

If someone is "fired for cause", a non-compete can indeed be enforced. If they are laid off, however, it cannot. This case sounds very much like the former.

I would never, ever sign a contract like that and that is probably why I will never, ever work in the media. ETA - I heard they canned him for submitting an article to the Pulse.

Since we now have more readers than WGOW has listeners, I think that might be on the table.
And the pay is about the same, from what I heard.
If WGOW can't compete with even J103, since RTN left, does that void the non-compete clause?
