An accident at Highway 153 and Hamill Road last night sent 5 people to the hospital with an array of injuries. According to witnesses, a White Cadillac travelling southbound on 153 collided with another vehicle in the northbound lane at Hamill Road . The vehicle continued southbound against traffic where it careened into street markers, roadside business displays, and a pole finally coming to rest against the northbound guardrail at Hwy 153 and DuPont Parkway . The occupants of the Cadillac were transported to Erlanger with serious injuries.
The occupants of the vehicle struck at Hamill Road , one of which was a small child, were also transported to Erlanger with unknown injuries. Traffic in both directions was temporarily stopped to extract and transport all of the victims. Due to the heavy damage and debris left in the wake of the accident, traffic northbound on hwy 153 had to be rerouted back to Access Road
Traffic investigators are not clear what set off the chain of events that resulted in the accident but a witness reported that the vehicle slammed into several objects at a very high rate of speed and continued to accelerate until stopping against the guardrail. An update on this accident will be given as soon as information can be obtained.

The identity of the body found in the river on April 11th has been positively identified as Raymond Earwood. Back on March 7th of this year, witnesses saw Earwood standing along the outer railing on the Walnut Street walking bridge, removing some personal effects. After a brief comment to some teenagers passing by, he jumped into the water. Despite rescue and recovery efforts following the incident, his body was not found.
On April 11th, the body of a male was pulled from the Tennessee River near the 500 block of Manufacturers Road . Positive identification of the body could not be immediately made due to advanced decomposition. The medical examiner was able to identify Earwood through his medical records.

Over the weekend, police apprehended an attempted murder suspect wanted in connection with a shooting incident that occurred on April 9, 2009, around the 3800 block of 7th Avenue . After receiving a Crime Stopper’s tip on his whereabouts, police arrested Erik Rosenbaum at the Hamilton Point Apartments. He was apprehended as he came out of one of the apartments.
Warrants for Rosenbaum were issued following a robbery in which 25-year-old Justin Edwards was shot in the face. On April 9, 2009, Edwards reported that he and a female friend went to a location in the 3800 block of 7th Avenue where they met up with an unknown white male and unknown black male who agreed to help them buy marijuana. After obtaining the drugs, the white male suspect put a gun to Edward’s head and demanded his money. Sometime during the altercation, Edwards attempted to get away from the suspects and was shot. The suspects then took $2 from the female passenger in the vehicle and fled in an unknown direction.
Edwards was not seriously injured in the incident and after the ordeal, drove his female passenger home. Nearly two hours after the shooting, he went to Hutcheson Medical Center where he was treated and released. Following an investigation of the incident, police were able to identify Rosenbaum and Charles Shelton who was arrested on April 13, 2009, by the Chattanooga Police Fugitive Division.
Rosenbaum was arrested on outstanding warrants for attempted 1st degree murder, especially aggravated robbery, aggravated robbery and criminal conspiracy. He is currently being held at the Hamilton County Jail.

An attempted robbery at the Wendy’s restaurant located at 5200 Brainerd Road was thwarted by the quick actions of the store manager. Police received the call around 1:20 this morning and were advised by several employees that a single gunman tried to rob the store. He entered the business from a back door and made his way to the office where store manager, Ronnie Rhea, was working. Rhea saw the suspect and immediately slammed the door, preventing him access to the office. That action must have scared the suspect, who then fled the business through the back door to an awaiting vehicle parked outside.
No one was hurt during the ordeal. The witnesses described the suspect as a light-skinned black male, 18-20 years old, 6’01-6’03, thin build, bushy eye brows, wearing a gray or black hoodie, whose face was partially covered by a beige tee shirt. They reported that he was armed with a large-sized chrome revolver. The getaway vehicle was described as a dark colored mid-sized sedan but nothing was observed about the driver of the vehicle.
Investigators are working to establish leads in the case.

A disturbance call at 4217 12th Avenue ended peacefully tonight despite not being able to locate the suspect.
Chattanooga Police were called to the residence around 7:30 Saturday night after receiving a call of shots fired. Once on-scene, police spoke to Charles Vandergriff who advised that he’d been in an argument with his ex-girlfriend and her uncle, Freddie Grady Smith. During the course of the argument, Smith got his gun; fired shots at Vandergriff; then retreated to his home.
When police arrived at the residence, they were unable to get Smith to come out. Due to the gravity of the situation and previous arrest history, the SWAT team was called in to make initial contact with Smith. After an extended period without contact, entry was made into the residence and it was discovered that Smith was not at the location.
Vandergriff wasn’t injured during the altercation but a warrant was issued for Smith for the aggravated assault against Vandergriff. Police will continue the search for Smith.

I have had several questions on the bus accident on Glenwood Dr this morning.
This is what I know.
A Hamilton County Magnet School bus was stopped for unknown reasons in the traffic lane, a Mitsubishi SUV traveling in the same direction had to stop suddenly, and the SUV fishtailed out of control, left the roadway, hit a pole and bounced back on the road coming to rest at the bumper of the school bus.
There was minor damage to the bumper of the bus.
Several of the students were transported to TC Thompson’s to be checked out and the driver of the SUV was treated at Erlanger and not seriously injured.
Because there were numerous students on the bus, and this will be a lengthy traffic accident investigation report, we do not anticipate it being completed an approved until tomorrow.
